The RIT Office of the Provost records, 1957-2001 includes correspondence, proposals, meeting minutes, program registration reports and manuals, and other miscellaneous documents. Although there are a variety of items in the collection, most deal with the development and accreditation of specific programs. For instance, there is a section on the College of Continuing Education that includes correspondence, memorandums, program proposals, and course descriptions. Similarly, there are program proposals for a B.S. in Computational Mathematics and a B.S. in Criminal Justice. In addition to these program proposals, there are accreditation reports such as documentation on the Medical Record Technician program of RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). While most of the collection does relate to the university's many programs, there are also several miscellaneous documents including planning reports. At the end of the collection are several long range planning reports from 1974-1986, as well as strategic planning documents. Records of the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) Office of the Provost. The collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, program registration materials, and other miscellaneous items. Most of the collection is related to program development and accreditation measures.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute.
